Biography

Robin completed his Ph.D in Computational Chemistry at the University of Leeds and then joined RCS in 1998. During his time at Manchester he has experienced a wide variety of research computing disciplines, from teaching OpenMP and optimisation and parallelisation through to working on the RealityGrid, ESLEA and GENIUS projects as a grid software engineer. He has subsequently project managed a joint RCS/ESNW exploratory project to investigate the provision of a campus grid which has now become the University of Manchester's Computational Science Cloud. During this time he was also the e-Science team leader.

Robin is the Research Applications and Collaboration Manager. His team is responsible for all aspects of research facilitation from applications support, training and collaboration support through to elements of middleware to enable next generation working practices to widen researcher's research scope. The team specialises in the support of high-end research computing and plays a key role in strategic projects such as the JISC-funded MaDAM project and Manchester Informatics' Computational Science Themes, led by Associate Vice President for Research, Professor Chris Taylor.
